An avant-garde tourism project has been announced by the City of Brownsburg-Chatham and its designers, Constellations, which will see the light of day in January 2022 on the shores of the Ottawa River at Camping municipal Chatham.

Jean-François Brunet, general manager of the Town of Brownsburg-Chatham, announced the purchase of two Écopods at a cost of $35,000 each, including one that can be pulled with a sled to find itself on the river during the winter season. The City thus wishes to become a leader in ecotourism and move to a post-carbon environmental vision.

Named the Kujuk, this small eco-responsible dwelling on stilts, 100 square feet, can accommodate 3 to 4 people for a stay allowing them to admire the beauty of the sky. It will be self-sufficient, fully powered by solar panels and 4 seasons. Its structure will have optimal insulation for the Canadian winter. Its design, inspired by the Vanlife, will be comfortable and sophisticated. The interior layout will consist of a sofa bed, a compact kitchen, storage space and a relaxation net.

They will be built in Argenteuil, by local labor. The materials will come from a local source encouraging a circular economy model specific to the new philosophy of the MRC d’Argenteuil. The founder and president of Constellations, François Turgeon, was on site with his entire team to explain his approach and his project during the press briefing on September 27.

“I found the balance between several things that fascinate me, namely architecture, the love of nature and the feeling of bringing a project of value to our society”, explained Mr. Turgeon, the promoter, who knows the area as a tourist, having spent his summers at Farmer’s Lake in Wentworth. The co-founder, Gaétan Serrigny, has a BAC in business specialization from HEC and the two promoters are surrounded by a team of architecture specialists.

Several representatives of the MRC d’Argenteuil were on hand for the announcement, including Dany Bigras, commissioner for commercial and tourist economic development, who wants more of a concept promoting the village core.
