Mobile Dormitory Unit & Launch of the Integrated Pilot Project
Following the presentation of the first ABITA prototype, we initiated an iterative co-development process grounded in Constellations’ nanotecture research, real-world field observations, and direct feedback from frontline workers and individuals experiencing homelessness.
From this ongoing reflection, we are proud to introduce ABITA R6, a new six-bed dormitory-format mobile unit, along with the launch of the integrated pilot project OASIS 01.

A Complete Solution — Beyond the Structure
Through collaboration within a multidisciplinary consortium, OASIS 01 was developed as more than a physical unit. It combines:
- One ABITA R6 mobile dormitory unit
- On-site psychosocial services
- A structured operational deployment strategy
OASIS 01 is designed as a rapid-response intervention platform deployable where needs are most urgent. It provides rest, relief, and frontline intervention support — serving as a bridge between street conditions and social reintegration.
Pilot Project Objectives
- Gather measurable field data
- Collect feedback from individuals in crisis
- Support frontline workers and partner organizations
- Evaluate operational efficiency and social impact

Why a Dormitory Format?
Field assessments indicate that demand significantly exceeds available individual shelter solutions, while funding constraints remain substantial.
To serve more individuals in a continuous and structured manner, ABITA R6 was developed as a mobile dormitory integrating:
- 144 sq. ft. interior footprint
- 6 continuous sleeping spaces
- 2 exterior-access 24/7 washrooms (3D renderings for illustrative purposes only)
While the studio configuration remains relevant in certain contexts, the dormitory model allows for broader social reach at lower operational cost.

Nanotecture Serving Social Intervention
OASIS 01 relies on a consortium of public, private, and nonprofit partners. This shared-resource model enables integrated operations where every service and intervention is designed to maximize measurable social impact.
The ABITA R6 design, developed by Constellations, reflects optimized spatial efficiency while maintaining dignity, safety, and durability.
Measurable Annual Impact
With 6 continuous sleeping spaces and 2 accessible washrooms:
- 6,570 structured rest periods per year (8-hour cycles)
- 26,280 shorter relief or rest intervals annually
This data-driven approach enables clear social performance evaluation.

Complementary Intervention Spaces
Two additional OASIS tents support operations:
- One administrative and intervention tent for field teams
- One heated respite tent for rest and warming
Integrated waste management (sorting, recycling, composting) is included.
Estimated operational costs:
- Approximately $27 per structured rest cycle
- Approximately $1.47 per relief period
OASIS 01 aims to demonstrate that structured, measurable, and humane interventions can produce durable impact at controlled cost while improving public coexistence and restoring dignity.

Why OASIS 01 Is Necessary
Recent data highlights urgency:
- 9,307 individuals experiencing visible homelessness in Quebec (April 2024)
- +15% increase since 2022
Despite expanded shelter capacity, occupancy rates have declined — revealing a misalignment between existing models and field realities. OASIS 01 was designed to address this gap.

Field Presence
ABITA has been presented at the Outremont Municipal Council.
We are currently seeking public-sector partners and evaluating deployment scenarios to scale OASIS 01 across Quebec.
Meetings with Mayor Caroline Braun and Councillor Amélie Cliche confirmed strong interest and openness to continued collaboration.
Deployment location selection will be strategic to ensure impact and long-term viability.
Academic Collaboration
We are also advancing discussions with academic partners.
Philippe Terrier, Eng., Ph.D., Professor of Sustainable Engineering at ÉTS, has expressed interest in contributing expertise toward integrating robust, low-tech, and durable solutions adapted to real-world constraints.
Our objective is to position ABITA as a pedagogical project beginning in 2026 to strengthen collective research and reduce environmental footprint.

Regulatory & Implementation Framework
Constellations acts exclusively as a design and research studio.
Manufacturing, site preparation, and installation of units must be carried out by properly licensed contractors in compliance with applicable Quebec regulations.
Operational deployment of OASIS 01 is subject to municipal authorization and partnership agreements.

Support the Pilot Project
We are launching a community call for support.
We require funding to complete the ABITA prototype.
Good news:
Every dollar donated is matched by the Impact Fund.
$100 donated = $200 invested in ABITA.
Your contribution supports:
- Research and development
- Municipal engagement
- Deployment of the first operational cohort
Thank you for supporting innovation grounded in dignity and practical impact.
